After Electric bus which was launched before few days, now Bangalore is gearing up for Hybrid buses as Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Company (BMTC) invited global tenders for procuring such vehicles.
Unlike other, Hybrid buses run on 70 per cent diesel and 30 per cent battery. The battery of the bus gets charged while the bus is running on diesel. Once charged fully, the bus gets into battery mode automatically and vice-versa.
Hybrid buses produces less smoke than normal buses and are known for better fuel efficiency by reducing around 30% of normal fuel consumption.
BMTC is one of the most efficient public transport company in India and has been hailed for adopting green ideas to reduce the air pollution in the city.
