The construction of Vidhana Soudha was started on 13 July 1951, with the foundation stone laid by Prime Minister of India of that time, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Mr. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, then Chief Minister of Karnataka, can be heavily credited for his efforts involved in the construction, and making it a marvelous granite construction wonder. He traveled across Europe and US to get the ideas for the building construction by visiting numerous magnificent monuments in the world.
Mr. Hanumanthaiah also speeds up the building construction and made it finish by 1956.
Vidhana Soudha is spread across an area of 700m x 350m and is the Largest Legislature building in India.
